Worship

In Temple Emanu-El , congregational singing is encouraged, rather than performance. Both male and female members frequently lead both daily morning minyan and parts of Shabbat and holiday services.

Working together, we hope to maximize the number of people to assure having a minyan whenever one is needed.
Our schedule of services is as follows:
Daily:
Morning Minyan: 7 AM Monday through Thursday; 8:30 AM on legal holidays
Sunday Minyan: 10 AM (during the fall and winter).
While our early morning minyan continues, we do not automatically have a daily evening service, but it may be arranged. If you have a yahrzeit or other need for a minyan, please notify Iris or Irwin Rothblatt (201-339-5714) or Rabbi Clifford B. Miller (201-858-8271) to ensure a minyan for that day. Please do your best to bring as many people as possible.
Weekly:
Shabbat
Opportunities to learn and pray on Shabbat are available to all.
Services are held at the following times:
Kabbalat Shabbat - Friday at 6:00 PM
Shabbat Morning - Saturday at 9:15 AM
Shabbat Minhah - Saturday at 12:15 PM
Shabbat Kiddush
Shabbat morning services are often followed by a delicious sit-down Kiddush luncheon, lovingly prepared by our Temple Emanu-El volunteers. All are invited to a Kiddush luncheon following Shabbat services.
Anyone may sponsor a Kiddush to celebrate or commemorate an event. For those interested in sponsoring a Kiddush, kindly contact the Temple office at (201) 436-4499 or Kiddush Chairperson, Renée Bousso at (201) 858-8480.
Holidays:
Mornings: 9:15 AM
Special holidays: Erev Purim, Erev Tisha B’Av and Erev Simhat Torah services vary in their starting times from year to year. It is best to check the website or the Shofar Bulletin in advance.
Holiday Services
Holiday services are held for all holidays and festivals.

Learners’ Program
During the Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Services, Dr. Deborah Miller conducts a “Learners’ Prayer Service” for those who want to learn the basics and fundamentals related to the structure of the service.
There is instruction, as well as discussion, on the elements and parts of a service. The class is held in a warm, friendly and casual atmosphere which makes learning and participating fun, enjoyable and rewarding.
Temple Emanu-El also offers:
Free babysitting on the High Holydays; however, reservations are required. Please call the office (201) 436-4499 to reserve a spot, so that appropriate arrangements can be made for your child/ren.
An Adult Learners’ Minyan during Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur services
Free admittance to all Jews to attend Rosh HaShanah and Yom Kippur services.
We ask only that you let our office know to expect you: (201) 436-4499.
